The Curious Circularity of the Industrial Revolution
During its first phase, industrialization drew people out of their homes and into cities as the factory labor system replaced the domestic. Today, the fourth phase involves work — done mostly in urban and suburban areas — to create technologies that enable us to return home and start a new version of the decentralized putting-out system of remote employment.
At each stage of the Industrial Revolution, advanced machinery was sufficient to supplant some kinds of human labor. This factor is common to each phase.
This article provides an interesting reflection on things to come. AI is the new supplanting technology.
